How do I keep up with my new hair color and highlights?
Signed, Lisa

Keeping up with your new hair color is all about knowing the before, during and after of your color service. First, preparation is key. The softer and healthier your hair is the longer the color will last so give yourself a deep conditioning treatment a few days before you go in for your color service. Also, natural oils in your hair help color cling better so avoid washing your hair the day before you go in for a color service.
If you want to get the most out of your hair color opt for hair color that is only a few shades lighter or darker than your natural hair color. The closer the color to your natural hair, the less noticeable your roots will be when they grow out. To keep your color vibrant once you leave the salon, look for color enhancing shampoos and conditioners. These products are meant to help your color last longer.  Also, try to avoid exposure to harsh elements like sun and chlorine, both of which can cause color fading or discoloration. Coloring your hair will always involve touch-ups but follow these tips and ideas and your hair color will definitely be keeping up with you.

Elizabeth

How often do you recommend cleaning make up brushes?
Signed, Michelle

You should clean your brushes on a regular basis, at least every 3 to 5 months depending on how often you use them. Since many bristles are made up of hair, it makes sense to use a gentle soap or shampoo to clean them. In warm water, dip the brush tip in to wet it down. Then, place your cleanser in your hand and wipe the wet brush over your palm, gently working soap through the bristles. Swirl the brush tip through the water and gently dry the bristles using a towel and reshape as needed. Allow the brush to finish drying before using.

I am trying to grow my hair longer.  How often should I be getting a trim?
Signed, Mary

Thank you for addressing the misconception many people have when they are growing their hair long or already wear it long. Getting your haircut regularly is so important to the health and success of your growing efforts. In fact, a haircut or trim is recommended every 4-6 weeks. Remember, your hair grows from the scalp, so the hair on your ends is months or even years old. By getting regular cuts or trims you eliminate unwanted split ends, prevent further damage and make hair more manageable.
But growing and maintaining your hair doesn’t end with a haircut. There is at-home maintenance you can do that will help keep your hair looking and feeling great. Clarify and deep condition your hair every 7-10 days. Clarifying will remove any build up while deep conditioning will put moisture and strength back in your hair. And while you may not shampoo your hair daily, conditioning is important every day. Also, use a thermal protectant every time you use a heat appliance. Going to great lengths to keep you hair healthy and manageable will surely give you the length you are looking for.

Beautifully yours,

Elizabeth
